KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va., Nov. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- West Virginia American Water is moving forward with additional upgrades to Jefferson County's water infrastructure with work to prepare the future site of the Central Grove Water Treatment Plant.
The project is located near the intersection of Goldenrod Drive and Marie Drive. Initial work includes selective tree clearing, grading, decorative fencing, landscaping improvements, and well evaluation.
The new water treatment plant will become part of the larger water system serving the area and represents an important step toward connecting the Mountain and Walnut Grove water systems. The Walnut Grove system already operates as an interconnected network of water treatment facilities. Its nine water treatment plants collectively serve approximately 4,960 active customers. Adding the Central Grove Water Treatment Plant to this system allows operators greater flexibility to manage the system, balance changing needs and continue to support reliable water service across the communities they serve.
"This project is about more than adding a new facility. It's another step toward a stronger, more connected water system," said Scott Wyman, President of West Virginia American Water. "Connecting different parts of the system gives our operators more flexibility and ways to support continued reliable water service for the communities we serve."
Since becoming the water and wastewater service provider for five acquired local utility entities in Jefferson County, West Virginia American Water has continued working to strengthen the local infrastructure that customers rely on every day. So far, the company has invested more than $11.7 million in local water and wastewater system improvements during its first three years of ownership. The Central Grove project builds upon that work by investing not only in individual facilities, but also in how different parts of the local water system can work together.
During this first phase, nearby residents may notice crews and equipment as the site is prepared for future construction. The work will also include landscaping improvements, reseeding and new trees. The Company encourages residents to stay out of work zones to maintain the safety for both the community and crews.
