A new collaboration brings Mikkeller's official Beer Geek Breakfast recipe into a guided homebrewing experience with iGulu

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 13, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Danish craft beer brand Mikkeller and smart homebrewing brand iGulu today announced the Mikkeller x iGulu Beer Geek Breakfast Ingredient Kit, bringing one of Mikkeller's most iconic beers into the homes of a new generation of beer enthusiasts.
Developed specifically for the iGulu smart brewing system, the collaboration gives beer lovers the opportunity not only to enjoy Beer Geek Breakfast, but also to take part in brewing it themselves.

From a Copenhagen Kitchen to the World and Back Home

Before Mikkeller became a name recognized by beer lovers around the world, its story began with homebrewing experiments in a small Copenhagen kitchen.
Mikkel Bjergsø spent years experimenting with malt, hops, and yeast, continuously brewing, tasting, and refining recipes. One simple but unconventional idea - adding French press coffee to an oatmeal stout - eventually became Beer Geek Breakfast.
With its bold coffee character and rich, silky body, Beer Geek Breakfast quickly gained international recognition. It was voted the No. 1 stout on RateBeer and became Mikkeller's major breakthrough on the international beer scene. Mikkeller later called Beer Geek Breakfast "the beer that kickstarted it all."
Now, the beer that began as a homebrewing experiment is coming home again.

Translating an Iconic Beer into a Homebrewing Experience

The Mikkeller x iGulu collaboration goes beyond placing two names on a package.
Mikkeller brings the recipe heritage and distinctive brewing character of Beer Geek Breakfast. iGulu translates that foundation into a complete homebrewing experience through a dedicated ingredient kit, guided brewing program, and controlled fermentation system.
The collaboration preserves the beer's defining profile: freshly brewed coffee, dark chocolate, and roasted malt over a smooth oat-led body. The finished beer is expected to reach 7.5-8% ABV.

How iGulu Brings the Recipe Home

A recipe determines what goes into a beer, but fermentation shapes what comes out. Beer Geek Breakfast's body, coffee expression, roasted character, and overall balance all depend on precise control of temperature, pressure, and timing.
That is where iGulu makes the difference. Users scan the RFID recipe card included in the kit, and the brewer recognizes the recipe and loads its recommended fermentation program. iGulu then automatically manages key conditions throughout each stage, including temperature and pressure, reducing the need for constant manual monitoring and adjustment.
This controlled process makes a complex stout more approachable and repeatable at home while preserving the character intended by the collaboration. The complete brewing and fermentation process takes approximately 14 days, and each kit produces around one gallon of finished beer.

Kickstarter Early Access

On September 22, the Mikkeller x iGulu Beer Geek Breakfast Ingredient Kit will make its debut through the iGulu Kickstarter campaign. Early-bird backers will receive special launch pricing and priority access, making them among the first to brew and enjoy fresh Beer Geek Breakfast at home with iGulu F2.
The kit is expected to begin shipping in Q1 2027. Final fulfillment details will be confirmed on the Kickstarter campaign page and shared with backers through campaign updates.
The ingredient kit is compatible with the iGulu S1, S1 NEO, F1, F1 PRO, and F2 brewing systems. It is also planned to remain available after the Kickstarter campaign.

Readers can learn more on the Mikkeller x iGulu product page.

Born in a Copenhagen kitchen and enjoyed in glasses around the world, Beer Geek Breakfast is now bringing its signature fresh flavor experience into homes everywhere.

This time, it is more than a beer. It is a brewing experience.
