La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, Sept. 11, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- La Paz capital of Baja California Sur in Mexico is becoming more accessible to U.S. travelers as Alaska Airlines expands its nonstop service between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and La Paz International Airport (LAP) to four times weekly, giving travelers greater flexibility to discover Mexico’s coastal capital and the diverse territories and experiences that surround it.

The route from Los Angeles serves as the only direct nonstop service to La Paz airport. Alaska Airlines launched the route in 2024 and has continued to develop the service. The current schedule operates four times weekly, with service from LAX to LAP on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Flights depart Los Angeles at approximately 11:30 a.m., with a flight time of about two and a half hours. Operating days and times vary by season and schedule period.

For travelers beyond Southern California, the importance of the route extends beyond the nonstop flight itself. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is one of the largest and most connected gateways in the United States, allowing travelers from other U.S. markets to connect through Los Angeles and continue nonstop to La Paz.

FROM LOS ANGELES TO LA PAZ
With four weekly nonstop flights from Los Angeles and connecting opportunities through LAX from cities across the United States, La Paz offers travelers an increasingly accessible way to discover Baja California Sur.

From the waterfront of La Paz to the artistic character of Todos Santos, the natural beauty of Balandra Beach and the marine experiences of Espíritu Santo Island, the destination invites travelers to look beyond the traditional Mexican beach vacation and discover a broader experience shaped by nature, culture, gastronomy and life on the coast.

A DIFFERENT WAY TO DISCOVER MEXICO
The growing accessibility of La Paz comes at a time when travelers are increasingly looking beyond traditional resort destinations for experiences that combine nature, adventure, gastronomy, culture and local character.

La Paz offers a different way to experience Mexico. Its appeal is not based on a single attraction or type of traveler, but on the ability to combine multiple experiences within one itinerary.

A long weekend can focus on La Paz, its waterfront, gastronomy and marine experiences. A longer trip can connect La Paz with Todos Santos, Balandra Beach and Espíritu Santo Island, combining outdoor adventure, cultural experiences, culinary discoveries and time on the water.

The result is a destination that appeals to travelers seeking nature, adventure, food, wellness, culture or simply a more relaxed coastal experience.

CONNECTIVITY CREATES OPPORTUNITY: A GATEWAY TO BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR
The route creates a direct gateway through one of the United States’ major international airports, giving travelers from other markets another option for reaching Baja California Sur.
Travelers once they arrive will find: a capital city with its own character, surrounded by territories offering exceptional marine experiences, outdoor adventure, gastronomy, culture and opportunities to experience Baja California Sur at a different pace. And the journey can extend well beyond the city itself. La Paz serves as a gateway to a broader destination encompassing distinctive communities, landscapes and experiences throughout Baja California Sur.

Just outside the city, Balandra Beach is one of the destination’s most recognizable natural settings, known for its calm, clear waters and distinctive desert coastline. The area provides opportunities for kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming and enjoying the landscape at a slower pace.

Espíritu Santo Island offers another dimension of the destination, with opportunities for snorkeling, kayaking, diving, wildlife encounters and exploring the island’s dramatic landscapes. The island is part of the UNESCO-listed Islands and Protected Areas of the Gulf of California World Heritage Site.

Marine experiences are central to a visit to La Paz and its territories. Depending on the season, travelers can participate in whale watching and other wildlife encounters, as well as snorkeling, diving, kayaking, sailing and sport fishing.

Beyond La Paz, Todos Santos adds a distinctly different experience to a Baja California Sur itinerary. The historic town is known for its artistic community, galleries, independent hotels, restaurants, and wellness experiences and creative atmosphere, making it an appealing complement to a stay in La Paz.
