Miami Says ‘Oui’ to the Frenchie for the Eighth Year in a Row Miami Says ‘Oui’ to the Frenchie for the Eighth Year in a Row Nationally, French Bulldog Holds On To The Top Spot GlobeNewswire March 18, 2026

NEW YORK, March 18, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- It looks like the Florida sun isn’t the only thing warming the hearts of Miami residents. Once again, the French Bulldog took Miami’s top spot in the American Kennel Club’s (AKC®) 2025 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.

The French Bulldog was also recognized as the #1 pup in Los Angeles, CA and Houston, TX.

Miami’s top five has a new resident: the Labrador Retriever. Meanwhile, the Cane Corso continues its rise in popularity, breaking into the top ten in Miami. Similarly, the Beagle is making a run for it, jumping from #34 to #16 in 2025.

“It’s easy to see why the Frenchie and the Lab seem to mirror the national trend because each breed brings out the best in Miami,” said Gina M. DiNardo, AKC President and CEO. “While they are both great family dogs, the Frenchie thrives in a big city, and the Lab is perfect for walks along the beach.”

A breed's popularity does not mean it is the right breed for you. The AKC encourages dog lovers to do their research and find the right breed for your lifestyle to begin your journey of responsible dog ownership.
